The JDS Collision Story:

JDS are my initials James David Shirley Jr., but ALL know me as David Shirley.  I couldn’t think of a better name for the business, than one with my signature (JDS) to guarantee everything we stood for.

I was born in Ft Worth Texas in 1971 to deaf parents. Since I was the eldest, I was their ears and voice and had to translate for them most of my childhood. My father was a bodyman, painter, and very skilled mechanic. My mother was a draftsman for the Corp of Engineers. I had worked along side my father in his shop and learned many skills. I not only learned how to work on all aspects of a vehicle, I was skilled in communicating repairs at a very early age, obviously. This had allowed me to be very proficient in automobile repairs and began the foundation for my career.

My resume:
(age 16-19) Keystone Bodyshop in North Richland Hills on Grapevine Hwy. from 1987-1990 as the shop foreman, under owners Don and Glenn Carlen.

(age 19-41) I was lured to Toyota of Irving in 1991 and was the collision center parts director until 1997. I became the director of the collision center in 1998 and opened and operated the new collision center in 1999 and was the Collision Center Director until March 2012. There were articles written about us in Fender Bender, Autobody News and the Dallas Morning News for being a fast, intuitive, and one of the most successful growing collision center in the United States.

(age 41-43) Started and opened Vandergriff Toyota’s new collision center (TEAM Vandergriff) in 2012 and operated as collision center director until August of 2014. Since our departure from TEAM Vandergriff, the business was sold and put under new leadership in January 2015.

We opened JDS Collision Repair in January 2015 along with the team that has been the success of the prior collision centers in DFW.
